In software development, if you tell a computer to "be faster," nothing happens. A processor cannot execute abstract concepts. It requires specific, mechanical commands.

Modern parenting often treats emotional intelligence like an abstract concept. We tell an 8- to 12-year-old to "be mindful," "calm down," or "process your feelings." We are issuing vague, high-level commands to a nervous system that does not have the underlying logic to execute them.
